Eurotunnel has exceptionally opened its doors to visitors for the European Heritage Days

To mark the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Channel Tunnel and the 41st European Heritage Day, Eurotunnel’s Coquelles terminal gave 200 employees, their families, and 30 winners of a competition, organised with La Voix du Nord, the opportunity to visit this unique infrastructure!

To celebrate this special anniversary year, visitors had the privilege of discovering some exceptional sites that are rarely open to the public!

The freight and passenger terminals, where almost 2.2 million cars and 1.2 million lorries are loaded each year, ‘F46’, the maintenance workshop for LeShuttle and LeShuttle Freight shuttles and locomotives, the largest in Europe – 828 metres long, 43,000 m2 -, the Sangatte shaft, where the first tunnel boring machines descended in 1987, the service tunnel and the monumental portal to the two rail tunnels. … visitors were able to discover the most emblematic ‘must-sees’ in the history of the Channel Tunnel and the unique and extraordinary industrial and railway heritage that it still embodies today.
